Benjamin N. Rome, M.D.

Dr. Rome is a general internist and health policy researcher, currently completing a postdoctoral fellowship with PORTAL. He received his undergraduate degree in community health from Brown University, his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, and trained in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Dr. Rome began working with PORTAL during medical school. He has previously analyzed the use of an FDA process for approving supplements to high-risk medical devices and studied the cost/benefit balance of using market exclusivity extensions to promote research for drugs in rare diseases. He has published three articles with PORTAL faculty, including articles in JAMA and Health Affairs. His current research interests include studying the effects of policies and regulations on prescription drug pricing and utilization.
