Rasha Alhiary, PharmD., M.S.

Rasha Alhiary is a research specialist and former research trainee at PORTAL. She has a Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy Research from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from the University of Jordan School of Pharmacy where she was an undergraduate research trainee at the pharmacogenetics laboratory. She has previous experience in biotech business development and international project coordination related to revolutionizing higher education across the Mediterranean region. Her research interests lie in the drivers of healthcare spending; pharmaceutical regulation and drug pricing; and the comparative and cost-effectiveness of drug products and health services.
Her research at PORTAL includes examining patenting practices by brand-name drug manufacturers and paragraph IV certifications and litigation that hinder generic competition, as well as analyzing revenue on brand-name drug products. Her master’s thesis studied the impact of documented antibiotic allergies in electronic health records on medical and pharmacy costs.
