Ameet Sarpatwari, Ph.D., J.D.

Ameet Sarpatwari is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, an Associate Epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Assistant Director of the Program On Regulation, Therapeutics, And Law (PORTAL) within the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics. His research draws upon his interdisciplinary training as an epidemiologist and lawyer and focuses on the effects of laws and regulations on therapeutic development, approval, use, and related public health outcomes. 
 
​Dr. Sarpatwari completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia, where he was a Jefferson Scholar. He studied epidemiology at the University of Cambridge, where his doctoral work centered on uncovering disease progression, treatment effectiveness, and co-morbid burden among adults patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia. He subsequently studied law at the University of Maryland as a John L. Thomas Leadership Scholar. He is currently the principal investigator on grants from Arnold Ventures and the Open Society Foundations. Dr. Sarpatwari also serves as a Faculty Affiliate with the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics at Harvard Law School, and the Behavioral Insights Group at the Harvard Kennedy School. He teaches an annual course on public health law.
